Hello and Hapy New Year to all. We spent a quietly delicious New Year's Eve with friends, enjoying an incredible meal, great wines and a roaring fire. The kids played downstairs while the adults partook in a Tuscan feast prepared by Jodi, Els and yours truly. There was Wild Mushroom Crostini with truffle infused olive oil, tuscan white bean and vegetable soup, chicken braised in port wine and arugula risotto. Not to mention the "Paradel" for dessert - a gorgeous blend of heavy cream, egg yolks, apples/raisins and bread pudding. Our New Year's Resolution is definitely to eat less! But the holidays are filled with great foods and fun so it is nice to enjoy and then get a bit austere after New Years. After sleeping late on New Year's Day and making Belgian Waffles we decided to trek into the cold with the new showshoes Santa brought all of us. The temperature was a balmy 16 degrees but with no wind it was quite comfortable since we were dressed for it. We snowshoed over a mile into the snowy beauty of the McClean Game Refuge. We had a great time. Wishing every family and friend the blessing of prosperity and good health in 2009.
